Holt family allegiance divided between Richmond and Geelong football clubs

Come late Saturday night some in the Holt family will be ecstatic and the others may want to quickly forget.

Come late Saturday night some in the Holt family will be ecstatic and the others may want to quickly forget.

That’s because the family is split down footy lines; half in the Cats camp and half with the Tigers.

Brothers Marcus, a long time Tigers fan, and Jono, a Cats fan, are the main source of the friendly rivalry between the families.

Jono Holt, whose partner Jules, and children Mack and Milli all support the Cats, said the footy divide with his brother started as kids.

“Both sides of our family are either Geelong or Richmond through the whole lot. You picked one side or the other and that’s the way we went.”

Jono, who shares a friendly but “testy” rivalry with his brother, expects the Cats to win by two goals.

“The Cats need to start well, and if they start well the last two games have proved that we are playing good footy. We should be good enough to beat Richmond.

“I’m most nervous about Geelong not putting enough time into Dustin Martin because he can tear us apart.

“For 90 per cent of Marcus’ existence Richmond have been absolutely rubbish. There might be a box of beer on the line.”

Kasia Holt, partner of Marcus, said her interest for the Tigers grew when her sons Frankie, 4, and Ari, 9, were born.

“It’s going to be a tough match. I think the Cats are hungry for (the premiership), they haven’t had it for a while.

“I think Richmond have played extremely well and have shown that they can really, really give it all they’ve got under pressure.

“They've got confidence now and they play so well as a team. I think Richmond will come up at the end but it will be very very close.”
