Australians can easily turn their four weeks of annual leave into almost two months of holidays, with some clever planning.
When you combine public holidays, weekends and 22 days of annual leave, you can maximise your time away from the office – to a whopping 57 days.

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS 2022
Book three days of leave to get 10 days off in a row over the Christmas week.
With Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day falling on the weekend, the public holidays get bumped to the weekday, so you only need to take off Wednesday, December 28 to Friday, December 30 to get more than a week long break.
AUSTRALIA DAY
Get nine days off in a row by booking three days prior to Australia Day, on Thursday, January 26, and the day after as leave.
EASTER AND ANZAC DAY
You can have 19 days off in April by booking 8 days of annual leave.
For Easter, if you take off the four days prior to Good Friday, on April 7, you get ten days off in a row.
For Anzac Day, on Tuesday, April 25, take the weekdays either side to get nine days off in a row.
QUEEN/KING’S BIRTHDAY
For most states, the Queen’s (King’) Birthday falls on the 12th of June.
By taking four days of leave after the birthday public holiday, you can have nine days off.
CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS 2023
Next Christmas offers similar perks to this year, whereby booking just three days off you can have 10 days off in a row.
Book off Wednesday, December 27 to Friday, December 29, and you don’t have to return to work until January 2.
