The Gordon TAFE will receive almost $3m for refurbishment under a statewide upgrade blitz funded by the state government.
Five projects will be completed at the CBD campus including a $1m refurbishment of the roof of a building, $150,000 to refurbish the Fenwick St carpark, $930,000 in other “vital” maintenance including upgrades to exhaust fans in the training kitchens and training restaurants, airconditioning units and a hot water system.
Another $900,000 will be spent on lift upgrades and upgrading two spraying booths in the automotive department.
The government will spend $55m to upgrade all Victorian TAFEs.
State Higher Education Minister Gayle Tierney said skills training would be crucial to Victoria’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“These projects will deliver better facilities for students and staff, and support jobs and local businesses through the pandemic,” Ms Tierney said.
“We’ve rebuilt TAFE and investing to make it even better, because giving Victorians the skills and training they need will be critical to our economic recovery.”
Geelong MP Christine Couzens said: “This investment will ensure that TAFE students in Geelong continue to receive the very best in training to get them job ready and into paid work.”
