POLICE have launched a fresh appeal almost three decades after the roadside murder of Gold Coast man Colin Woodhouse.

The then 30-year-old was shot dead just minutes from his Worongary home around 12.30am on Christmas Eve, 1992.

He was driving home from his shift as the food and beverage manager at Myer Pacific Fair when he stopped to help a man standing next to a light-coloured sedan on Quambone St.

He was shot three times at close range.

Police believe the driver of the vehicle was Colin’s killer, with the sedan staged to look broken-down and attract assistance.

Homicide’s Cold Case Investigation Team Detective Senior Sergeant Tara Kentwell said a key line of inquiry in the renewed investigative focus was the make and model of the car.

“While we are keeping an open mind, current information indicates that the vehicle seen parked on the side of the road may have been an early 1980s model four-door Nissan Bluebird sedan that was white or light cream in colour,” she said.

“We are asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle matching this description in the Worongary area at the time to please contact us.

“It’s been 27 years since Colin Woodhouse was brutally murdered.

“We believe that even the smallest piece of information could lead to a breakthrough in the investigation and that with public assistance this crime can be solved.”

Witnesses saw a man in a car matching the description parked on Quambone St before Colin arrived on the night of the murder.

Police are now recirculating a comfit image created at the time, calling on anyone who may recognise the man to come forward.

A $250,000 reward remains in place for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

The Government reward further offers an opportunity for indemnity against prosecution for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who first gives such information.
