Geelong region MP Gayle Tierney will be a winner following the government’s leadership reshuffle after the resignation of Health Minister Jenny Mikakos.
Ms Tierney, a western region MP, has been appointed the government’s deputy leader in the upper house because of her “extensive parliamentary experience and knowledge.”
Premier Daniel Andrews said Ms Tierney was among the most experienced in the upper house.
“Gayle Tierney is one of our most experienced upper house members. Together with Jaclyn Symes, she’ll play a vital role in delivering our reform agenda as part of our Legislative Council leadership team,” he said.
Ms Tierney, whose office is on Yarra St, Geelong, was elected to the Victorian parliament in 2006 and is serving a fourth term. She is also the state’s Training and Skills, and Higher Education Minister.
Meanwhile western metropolitan MP Ingrid Stitt has become the state’s Workplace Safety and Early Childhood Minister.
Deputy Premier James Merlino is now the Mental Health Minister, and Danny Pearson is the Creative Industries Minister.
