A GARBAGE collector has discovered a man’s dead body after being called to remove a suspicious rubbish bin in Melbourne this morning.

A GARBAGE collector has discovered a man’s dead body while emptying a rubbish bin in Melbourne’s north.

The worker was emptying bins in Preston when he saw the body shortly after 8am on Saturday morning, according to police.

Authorities were called to the scene at the intersection of Young and Butler Streets not long after.

Police have been talking to residents in Preston after a man's dead body was found in a rubbish bin.

Nine News reports the garbage collector is currently talking to officers.

A crime scene has been established, and the homicide squad is investigating whether or not the death is suspicious.
