A four-year-old boy is fighting for life after being hit by a car on a suburban street, causing critical injuries.

A child is fighting for life in hospital after being hit by a car in Tasmania’s north.

Tasmania Police believe the four-year-old boy ran onto Franmaree Road in Newnham, Launceston, and was struck by a grey Suzuki vehicle on Saturday evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 6.40pm Saturday and stabilised the child, who was then taken to Launceston General Hospital.

The boy was then airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he remains with critical injuries, but is in a stable condition.
