Former Australian cricket star Michael Slater has faced court on a slew of domestic violence charges after he was arrested on the Sunshine Coast over the weekend.
Slater, 54, had his matter mentioned in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, April 15.
He did not appear in court but was in the Maroochydore Watch House.
He faces 19 charges, including assault occasioning bodily harm, choking and strangulation, four charges of common assault, enter dwelling at night by break, unlawful stalking and breaching bail conditions. All charges except for the bail breach are domestic violence offences.
He has not entered any pleas.
Court documents reveal most of the charges relate to two separate incidents, one on December 6, 2023 and the other on April 12.
The woman and Slater were briefly in a relationship, which the woman had terminated, according to the documents.
Police alleged in the documents on December 6, 2023 Slater had sent a woman a text saying “I fell and think I’ve broke my rib” and “Oh, and I need some vodka”.
The woman visited his former Noosa Heads address to check on his welfare and Slater started accusing her of being with other men.
As she was sitting on the couch, it is alleged he leaned over then struck her across the face and the impact made the woman’s body “go back into the coach,” documents stated.
Her eye swelled up instantly and she had a ringing in her ears.
It is then alleged he kicked her thigh which made her fall to the ground.
Slater then allegedly picked up a vodka bottle and raised it above his head, threatening “I’ll f---ing kill you”.
The woman attempted to escape into the laundry area and Slater allegedly launched towards her, grabbed her throat and slammed her into a fridge.
After letting her go, the woman attempted to lock the door of the laundry but he barged open the door and pushed her body into a laundry sink and a washing machine, causing her pain.
It is alleged Slater then put his hands around her throat and began to lift her, which gave her neck pain.
He let her go when she said she couldn’t breathe and went upstairs as she ran out of the house.
Documents stated that on April 12, the woman had received a call from someone she recognised to Slater, who told her he was in a mental health facility.
Later that day about 9.50pm, Slater allegedly went to her house and slapped her kitchen window, repeatedly saying “f--k you” and “where’s you daughter?”.
It is alleged Slater demanded to be let inside, telling her to “f---ing open the door” before climbing through the smashed window into her home and continuing his “aggressive and demeaning behaviour”.
It his alleged he “took hold of her arm firmly” which resulted in one of the common assault charges.
Police attended the residence and took Slater to Nambour Hospital for an injury from breaking the window.
The stalking charge relates to text messages which Slater allegedly sent the woman between December 5, 2023 and April 13 as well as unsolicited visits to her home.
About 300 messages were allegedly sent to the woman, some which called her a “c--t,” an “escort” and a “slut.”
Documents stated he also allegedly sent a voice messages threatening suicide.
“Get f--ked, you’re a fraud, I’m going to hang my skull at the front of your house,” Slater allegedly said in the voice message.
“How does that f---ing feel, you c--t?
“You f---ing killed me”
Duty lawyer Michael Robinson told the court he was told to make some enquiries about a rehab facility, and to adjourn the matter for a bail application on Tuesday.
Slater was remanded in custody and his matter was adjourned to Tuesday, April 16.
