FNQ police search for missing man in Gulf of Carpentaria

UPDATE: Police have found the body of a man missing from an island in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

UPDATE: Police have found the body of a man missing from an island in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

“Unfortunately during today’s search police have located the 33-year-old man reported missing on Mornington Island deceased,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

“Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance throughout the search.”

EARLIER: A search will get underway today to find a man missing from an island in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Austin Jacob, 33, was reported missing on Mornington Island.

He was last seen walking along Lardil St on January 13 however he has not been seen since. Police hold concerns as he has not been in contact with family.

Mr Jacob is described as Aboriginal, 170cm tall, medium build with black curly hair, beard and brown eyes.

Police, SES and community volunteers will resume searches this morning.
