The region’s federal politicians will be cheering the Cats from Canberra on Saturday.
Liberal Sarah Henderson and Labor’s Richard Marles and Libby Coker got together on Friday to show bipartisan support for the Cats.
Mr Marles said he would be in tears regardless of the result.
“The Geelong Football Club stands for everything that is good and right in this world. On Saturday night the whole nation will be behind you,” Mr Marles jocularly said in parliamentary speech this week.
Corangamite MP Libby Coker said the talent, teamwork and sheer grit to win will carry the Cats across the line.
“They have fought so hard through a tough 2020 but it’s made them stronger and even more determined. It will be the first Grand Final appearance for Paddy Dangerfield – thoroughly well deserved. The day will be bitter sweet sending off Gazza but I know the team will make it the perfect end to an outstanding career.”
Ms Coker said the Cats would win by 12 points.
Victorian Senator Sarah Henderson said she expected a close game.
“As a lifelong passionate Cats supporter, I am bursting out of my skin in anticipation of a Geelong premiership win,” Senator Henderson said.
“A victory would be so exciting not just for our wonderful club but for our great city.
“I am predicting a close, hard-fought match with the Cats getting up by 11 points.
“Under such difficult circumstances, I congratulate CEO Brian Cook, coach Chris Scott, the players led by captain Joel Selwood and all at the club for a great 2020 season.”
