Both the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader have paid tribute to Pope Francis after the pontiff’s death, calling him a “devoted champion and loving father” to Australian Catholics, and a man who “served God with the utmost devotion”.
Peter Dutton is leaning into law and order as he tries to reclaim momentum in the election race after a series of dire polls – but ex-PM Malcolm Turnbull popped up with some unhelpful observations, including calling his former colleague “Trump-like”.
Meanwhile, Anthony Albanese again dodged questions over whether Russia had made a request to Indonesia to establish a military air base – and popped into a Melbourne restaurant for a succulent Chinese meal.
