Labor has returned to government with a surprise majority as Anthony Albanese becomes the first Prime Minister to win re-election since 2004.
As of Monday, Labor has claimed 87 of the 150 seats in the House of Representatives, including Peter Dutton’s seat of Dickson.
The Coalition has secured just 39 seats.
Andrew Hastie has ruled himslef out of replacing Mr Dutton as party leader.
The Greens are licking their wounds after a Brisbane shellacking while the teals’ early cleberating could be slightly premature. At least two teal sitting MPs now look in real danger of being beaten. Counting continues.
