Meanwhile, former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has mocked Donald Trump by doing an impersonation of his voice on national television as he told the country’s politicians to “get off your knees” and stand up to the US president.

Mr Turnbull made an impression of what Mr Trump had said on the social media platform. “You're weak and ineffectual, you don't know anything about China, Chii-naa," he said.
