Mr Morrison was on hand to answer questions today in a live online Q&A for News Corp readers.

A new $6.2 billion tax for banks, $18.6 billion for schools, a 0.5 per cent hike in the Medicare levy from 2019, a multi-billion dollar suburban rail package, money for a second Sydney airport and a trial for drug testing welfare recipients were just a few of the many announcements in the budget on Tuesday night.

The 2017/18 budget projects a return to balance in 2020/21, improving from a deficit of $29.4 billion to a projected surplus of $7.4 billion within four years.

“This budget is about making the right choices to secure the better days ahead,” Mr Morrison said.

“Our choices are based on the principles of fairness, security and opportunity.”
