Authorities are concerned for the wellbeing of an Australian tourist missing in New Zealand for more than a week.
Elizabeth Wielga, 67, checked out of her accommodation in the Tongariro National Park area on New Zealand’s North Island on Friday August 30.
She was due to fly out of Auckland later that day but didn’t make it to her next destination and hasn’t been in contact with her family.
“Her family and police are concerned for her welfare and want to establish that she’s safe,” local police said in a statement.
“Ms Wielga does not have a phone or computer. It’s possible she doesn’t realise police are trying to locate her.”
Police believe she may have travelled to the New Zealand capital Wellington on the South Island.
“Information suggests she may be intending to travel to Picton,” police said
“We encourage anyone who has seen Ms Wielga, or who has information that might help us locate her to get in touch.”
