Police hunting for man after shocking fire attack.

Jai Brebner kissed his partner Kirsty goodbye at about lunchtime on December 30 before he went to the friend’s house in Baldivis, southern Perth.

Security footage released by police allegedly shows two men approached the house at about 1.30. They had a verbal argument with Mr Brebner before one man allegedly threw a clear liquid at him from a water bottle and set him on fire.

The other man watched on, holding two axes.

Mr Brebner ripped his T-shirt off and ran. The alleged attackers kicked the shirt and went inside the property, before leaving the premises.

The alleged victim was taken to hospital and treated for burns to 60 per cent of his body.

A family friend known only as Rebecca told this masthead his family are traumatised and in complete shock. They have no idea why this happened.

“It’s not known as to why this happened, it was unprovoked,’ she said.

“His partner hasn’t even watched the footage, but I have and it’s nothing short of horrific.”

Rebecca has spoken to him a number of times on the phone while he has been in hospital, but hasn’t spoken to her about the alleged incident.

“He’s pretty tough, Jai, but he has a hell of a lot of trauma around this, I’m sure he’ll put on a front to his family and friends,” she said.

“There’s a seven-year-old and a 15-year-old and that’s how they’re going to see their dad now.”

He also has two adult children who live nearby.

While Mr Brebner has had bandages removed and is able to talk and walk around, he has a long and painful recovery ahead.

Another family friend set up a GoFundMe to help the family while he is in hospital.

“Jai is a hardworking concreter and family man who was the main income earner of household,” the campaign read.

“These funds will ensure they can pay the rent and cover cost of bills or however needed. Please assist in any way, this was an [allegedly] unprovoked attack.’
