The Victorian Government unleashed a whopping budget on Tuesday with plenty of funding headed for Geelong. Here’s a two-minute guide to what was promised for our region.
• $2bn Geelong-to-Melbourne fast rail
• $465m tourism recovery package including $200 vouchers for people to stay, go on tours or book visits to attractions
• $272.4m to upgrade the Great Ocean Road and inland routes
• $40m to fully fund Stage 5 of the Kardinia Park redevelopment
• $5.3bn for social housing package including at least $200m across Greater Geelong and the Surf Coast.
• $868.6m for mental health including beds in Geelong
• $4.4m for residential beds for alcohol and drug recovery in Corio, Wangaratta and Traralgon.
• $73m for Barwon Heads Road duplication (total cost $365m)
• $169.6m to make kinder free in 2021
• $5m for a Secure Work Pilot Scheme to provide sick pay for casual workers
• $6.56m upgrade to Grovedale West Primary School
• $7.64m upgrade at Bellaire Primary School
• Marcus Oldham College to be funded from a $50m pool of funds
