A Sydney family have given a huge update after their 10-year-old dog was taken.

‘Distraught’: Family’s dog taken in daylight

Benji, a 10-year-old cavoodle, has been found after the family pet was taken by a mystery man has been captured on video last week.

Benji had been missing since last Wednesday after he escaped through a gate that had been left open in Hinchinbrook, in Sydney’s south west.

But what started out as an escapee pup appeared to turn into something entirely more sinister, as disturbing footage emerged of an unknown man taking Benji, who is said to be worth about $3,600.

On Monday afternoon however, Benji’s owner Paulina Tran revealed the pooch had been found.

The CCTV clip, handed over by neighbours, showed a distressed Benji crying as he was carried away by a bald man, wearing a dark blue T-shirt and light blue shorts.

Ms Tran told news.com.au that she does not recognise the man and wasn’t sure whether he’s a local.

“We have been knocking on houses and out looking every night but have had very little leads,” she said.

“My kids have been non-stop crying since he went missing. We are distraught”, she added.

Cavoodles are often described as affectionate and kind dogs with a great deal of loyalty towards their owners.

The owner of Sydney Cavoodles told news.com.au the popularity of the breed had led to issues around the country.

“They are so popular. They don’t shed, they’re smart and they are loving”, said Kelly, who has over 20 years’ experience.
