TREASURER Scott Morrison says he has been personally assured by Peter Dutton that he is “fully supportive” of the Prime Minister, amid growing speculation of a leadership challenge. His comments, during an interview on the ABC's 730, came after a new report suggesting Malcolm Turnbull's presumptive opponent may be ineligible to serve as an MP.
In a new report on Ten Daily, constitutional law expert Professor Anne Twomey states that Mr Dutton's commercial interests in two Brisbane childcare centres which receive Commonwealth government subsidies could make him ineligible to serve in parliament, under Section 44 of the Constitution.
In response, Mr Dutton says he has legal advice he is eligible to remain in federal parliament and is not in breach of the constitution.
