Fifteen Aussies unknown to each other have woken up on Wednesday morning as millionaires, after their syndicate took out Oz Lotto’s $70m jackpot.
The group of Queenslanders are each $4.7m richer after their syndicate held the only division one winning entry in the draw.
Oz Lotto’s eye-watering $70m was the fourth-largest jackpot in the game’s 31-year history, and the second-largest prize offered by any lottery game in Australia so far this year.
The 15 lucky ticket holders purchased their syndicate shares at Golden Casket outlets across Queensland, stretching from the Gold Coast to Townsville.
The winning numbers were 8, 13, 14, 23, 29, 32, 41, and the supplementary numbers were 4, 40, 43.
One of the winners, a man from Bribie Island, said the windfall would help him achieve his dream of owning a home.
“I was just asleep! Bloody hell,” he told The Lott.
“This changes our lives. We’ve been trying to get our first home, so this will do that.
“Unbelievable - my heart is racing!”
Another member of the winning syndicate, a man from Richlands, was initially sceptical when he received a call from an official from The Lott who shared the news he had hit the jackpot.
“I thought you were sh**-stirring me,” he laughed.
“I just can’t believe it.
“Funnily enough, I went to the outlet today to buy another share into the syndicate but it had sold out. If I had, I would have won double. But I’m happy with my $4.7m.”
While syndicate members who registered their entries to The Lott Members Club have been alerted to their good fortune, some of the winning group might still be unaware they are now millionaires.
The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said she hoped the remaining syndicate winners checked their tickets immediately.
“It’s remarkable that 15 Queenslanders became multi-millionaires tonight! While we’ve tried contacting those who registered their tickets to The Lott Members Club, some may have yet to discover the good news,” she said.
“We’re encouraging anyone who purchased a syndicate entry in Queensland for tonight’s Oz Lotto draw to check their tickets as soon as possible.
“Just imagine how thrilling it would be to discover you’re part of this winning group and are now $4.7m richer - your plans for Easter and beyond could be transformed.”
Anyone with a winning ticket should contact the Lott on 131 868 to begin the claims process.
Outside of the division one winners, there were more than another 1.2 million winners in divisions two to seven who took home a combined $27,266,400.30 in Tuesday’s draw.
