Changing shed ‘peep hole’ accused will appear in court in Wollongong
EARLIER this year, women at a public pool found a number of peep holes in the wall of their changing room. Now a pool employee has been charged.
IT WAS the last thing that women using a popular swimming pool expected to find in their changing sheds.
Earlier this year users of a public pool in Helensburgh found a number of holes had been made in a wall adjoining the female changing sheds. The holes overlooked the women’s shower area.
Then it was noticed that a man was allegedly peering through the holes into the sheds and a police investigation began.
Early today police announced they had arrested a 59-year-old man and charged him with five counts of peep and pry.
It has since emerged the arrested man was a council pool employee.
“Concerns were raised initially with Council regarding a potential breach of the Code of Conduct by a staff member at Helensburgh Pool,” Wollongong Council said in a statement.
“Council immediately investigated the matter. As a result the staff member’s employment with Council was terminated and the matter reported to NSW Police and the Ombudsman.”
The council wouldn’t comment further given it was an active police matter.
The man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday, May 17.
It’s not clear how long the man had allegedly been spying on women.
NSW Police say the holes have been since closed.
