Bruce Springsteen Brisbane concerts: The hits he didn’t play

BRUCE Springsteen’s two biggest Australian hits were among several glaring omissions from the setlist at his Brisbane shows this week.

Springsteen crowd-surfs in Sydney

BRUCE Springsteen ignited Brisbane with two mega performances this week, and yet The Boss still couldn’t find room in his three-hour show for some of his biggest and best hits.

The Boss’s catalogue of songs is so vast and wide that he didn’t belt out Born in the USA during either of his shows at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Born in the USA was his biggest Australian hit, reaching No.2 in 1984, and was one of at least five songs Springsteen omitted from his 27-song setlist, which he officially released on his website.

Also missing in action on both nights were Human Touch, Streets of Philadelphia (which reached No.4 in Australia), Glory Days and My Hometown.

He was also heavily tipped to play Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, but despite his acknowledging the occasion with several heartfelt ballads, that particular song was a no-show.

Known for mixing his set lists, Springsteen played Secret Garden as the opening song of his encore and Bobby Jean to close out the show on Tuesday, replacing them with Jungleland and Thunder Road on Thursday.

It may be why it’s worth going to see Springsteen more than once when he tours, because each show is different and he leaves the crowd wanting more.
