OPPOSITION leader Bill Shorten racked up a $1013 bill after leaving his driver sitting in the carpark all day as he attended a Melbourne Cup party.

The Australian reports the Labor leader has come under fire after attacking Coalition ministers for lording it about in their “white cars”.

But The Australian claims he has out-spent them all, citing the exclusive outing to the Birdcage venue on Melbourne Cup day with his wife as just one example.

The latest parliamentary expenses update shows Shorten spent almost $40,000 on Comcars in a recent five-month period. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull spent $21,000 during the same period.
