Five easy ways to appear more confident and ace your next job interview

Australia Post is on a hiring spree ahead of bumper festive season, with thousands of jobs up for grabs across the country.

Some 4000 casual roles have been created as the company prepares for what it expects to be its busiest Christmas ever, with 3300 available.

There are positions in parcel and mail processing, customer service, van and truck drivers, and forklift operators, though what jobs are available varies in each jurisdiction.

More than 1000 roles will be available in Victoria, 800 in NSW, 690 in Queensland, 380 in Western Australia, 200 in South Australia, 60 in Tasmania, 30 in the Northern Territory, and 30 in the ACT.

All vehicle-related jobs require a valid licence, and no experience is necessary for parcel and mail processing positions.

“At the moment, every day feels like Christmas at Australia Post and we’re on the lookout for people to join us and help deliver and process record volumes across the country,”

Australia Post executive general manager of People and Culture, Sue Davies, said.

An additional 1600 roles are also available, including permanent and fixed-term positions and a mix of part- and full-time roles.

A recent report by Power Retail forecasts that Australians will splash billions of dollars online shopping in the lead up to Christmas.

It’s anticipated e-commerce revenue will peak at $6.13 billion in November, a month with hugely popular sales events like Click Frenzy and Black Friday, before a slight drop to $5.82 billion in December.

Overall, e-commerce revenue is expected to grow 17 per cent in 2021 when compared with the previous calendar year.

Australia Post executive general manager, Gary Starr, said last December the company delivered 52 million parcels in what was the biggest month ever for the company.

In August, when millions of people were in lockdown, the company beat that figure by 20 per cent.

“We do expect these sort of volumes on an ongoing basis through to the end of the year,” Mr Starr said.

Mr Starr said the Covid-19 restrictions and borders closures had been challenging for the business.

“But we are making sure we have the right number of people and facilities in place to manage through the Christmas peak,” he said.

He said Australia Post was currently running 15 dedicated freighter aircraft per night for international deliveries, with the number expected to increased as December 25 approaches.
