Active COVID-19 cases dropping in G21, regional Victoria as Colac records two new cases

Two new COVID-19 cases were added to Colac-Otway’s tally on Sunday, but active cases continue to drop in G21 municipalities and regional Victoria in a great sign for future easing of restrictions.

Active COVID-19 cases continue to drop in the G21 region.

Greater Geelong (7) and Colac Otway Shire (26) are the only two council areas in the five-council G21 region with active COVID-19 cases.

Two new COVID-19 cases were added to Colac’s tally overnight with the area recording 133 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Twenty-four of Colac’s 26 cases are linked to two outbreaks at Bulla Dairy Foods in Colac and the Wydinia kindergarten in Colac.

Active cases were at the same level in Greater Geelong on Sunday as they were on Saturday.

The Surf Coast and Golden Plains shires, and the Borough of Queenscliffe remain free of active COVID-19 cases.

Regional Victoria has 52 active COVID-19 cases, down by six from Saturday.

In a positive sign for restrictions on leaving home being removed later this week, the 14-day case average for regional Victoria (4.1) remains below the level (5) the government has set for a further easing of restrictions.

The easing of restrictions is also dependent on the level of mystery COVID-19 cases, those with no known source of transmission.

In the past two weeks, five mystery cases have been uncovered in regional Victoria.

Statewide 41 new cases of coronavirus were recorded since Saturday, and 1157 cases remain active.

Seven more deaths from COVID-19 have been recorded since Saturday.

Four of the deaths occurred prior to Saturday, and six of the seven deaths are linked to known outbreaks in aged care facilities.

Statewide 723 people have died from coronavirus.
