It’s the little things than give Aaron McArthur’s new place a homely touch.
Wide doorways, a bath at ground level, automatic doors, and ramps to the back and front door will allow his seven-year-old son, Abel, who has a disability, to quickly settle into the Lovely Banks home.
The house built by Hamlan Homes is one of a range designed for people with a disability, the elderly and families with young children.
Mr McArthur said Abel would have “total independence” to move around the house.
“We wanted a house with plenty of room so when he grows up and requires bigger equipment it’s all accommodated in the house,” Mr McArthur said.
“I feel proud that Abel has a big future in the house as it’s been set up for the long term.”
Hamlan business consultant Cara Oliver said the house would allow Abel to live his life to the fullest.
“We are so fortunate to have the NDIS fund a portion of the accessible elements of the home to enable us to customise this home to meet Abel’s needs and ultimately enhance his life,” she said.
“We’ve installed reinforcement to certain areas of the ceiling, so that if needed in the future, a hoist system can be installed into areas such as the bathroom. It just means that the building can evolve with Abel over time.
“To see this home come to life was phenomenal. Aaron was incredibly determined, driven and committed to making this happen for his little boy Abel.”
