DRAMATIC lights and fireworks will rise from Carrara Stadium at tomorrow night’s Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.
The final dress rehearsal was held last night, with neighbours as well as those who attended getting a sneak peak of the event, which will have an audience of around 35,000 people inside the stadium, including Prince Charles.
Two dress rehearsals have been held in the past week as organisers fine tuned the performance, which will go out to a global audience of around 1.5 billion people.
While details remain under wraps, Dami Im, Ricki Lee Coulter and Delta Goodrem has been announced as performing while there is also set to be fireworks.
Footage aired today by Channel Seven shows a dance routine featuring Coulter and a beach-theme.
Organisers are praying for dry weather ahead of the night but bookmakers Sports better are offering odds that it will rain during the ceremony.
A damp night is being offered at $2.20 while the ceremony being cancelled entirely because of a thunder storm is considered at outside likelihood at $81 odds
“The odds of rain are short, it’s really touch and go but thankfully the chances of the event being cancelled are massive,’’ said SportsBet’s Will Byrne.
