A man who could no longer feel his legs after a workplace accident said he fell from a trailer, but CCTV footage suggests there may have been more to the incident than he let on.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin said St John NT’s paramedics were called to the scene at an East Arm transport company at 9.38am Thursday, September 19.

He said the accident left the 50-year-old man without feeling in his legs.

Sergeant Rankin said the man claimed he had fallen from a trailer and onto concrete.

But he alleged CCTV footage of the incident suggested the man “did not fall”, but was hit in the back by a roll of insulation that fell from the trailer.

Sergeant Rankin said NT WorkSafe was notified of the incident.

An NT WorkSafe spokesman said the watchdog had commenced an inquiry into the incident and had scheduled an interview with the injured worker at the Royal Darwin Hospital on Friday.

“While our inquiry is ongoing, no further comment will be made,” he said.
