Defending champions Leopold could be without a pair of dual premiership players for its grand final rematch with South Barwon after both were reported for rough conduct against St Mary’s on Saturday.
The 2-3 Lions have slipped to eighth on the GFNL ladder after an 11-point defeat at the hands of the Saints on Saturday, which followed a 19-point defeat to Newtown & Chilwell in Round 4.
Leopold could now face the Swans, who belted Geelong West by 59 points on Saturday, at McDonald Reserve without two of its premiership players in Sam Scott and Andrew Pepper. Both were put on report for high bumps, in the opening and final terms respectively.
The Lions have beaten the Swans in the past two GFNL deciders and it’s been nearly four years since South Barwon last got the four points — an 18-point win at Leopold Memorial Park in June, 2021.
On Saturday, Pepper was reported for his collision with St Mary’s Noah Biggs in the first term at Leopold Memorial Park.
Pepper received a yellow card and left the ground after the incident which triggered plenty of push and shove between players from both teams.
Meanwhile, Scott, who kicked two late goals in the match to give the Lions a chance of pinching victory, was also reported for rough play on St Mary’s’ Charlie Sprague.
With the Saints leading by eight points, Sprague attempts to collect the ball on the wing after a Marcus Thompson kick before he was collected by Scott.
Scott was then issued a yellow card and was sent from the ground.
However, Sprague got back up to his feet and was able to take his kick.
After the match, Saints co-coach Luke Rayner both Biggs and Sprague had been cleared of concussion and should be fine to play on Saturday against St Joseph’s on June 1.
The Saints and Joeys remain unbeaten in 2025.
