A Gympie mother has faced the music 12 years after a drunken night out landed her in trouble with police.

Kristy Lee Miller, now 36, had been wanted by police since 2009 for assaulting and obstructing a police officer.

She handed herself in after turning her life around, Gympie Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell said Miller was in Cairns City on October 12, 2009, when she approached police and screamed “kill me now, f****** shoot me”.

Sgt Campbell said Miller appeared heavily under the influence and did not move on when directed by police who had to call in reinforcements.

“When questioned by police whether she understood the direction, she ran at police screaming and threw two punches with closed fists,” she said.

Miller never turned up to Cairns Magistrates Court on October 29 and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

More than a decade later, on September 17, she handed herself in at Gympie Police Station after she was told about the outstanding warrant when changing her Northern Territory driver’s licence over to Queensland.

She pleaded guilty on Monday to failing to appear, failing to comply with police instruction and assaulting and obstructing a police officer.

He said the original charges were laid at a “chaotic time” in his client’s life.
