KATHERINE experienced a minor flood warning at the weekend, with the Katherine River more than doubling its level from about 7.5m high on Wednesday afternoon to just under the minor flood warning limit of 16m on Sunday.

Plenty of residents enjoyed the sight of the rushing river, with up to 35 people heading to the bridge each hour to check out th torrent as the river reached its highest level in several years.
A number of roads in the Katherine region flooded, including Florina Road at Vampire Creek and Rowlands Quarry but few roads were impacted in the town with the water levels not breaking the river bank.

Further rainfall is expected over the coming days which could contribute to river rises.
