A new route between Darwin and the Gold Coast is taking off, with flights now on sale from $139.

Jetstar’s new direct service commences early Friday morning and will operate until October 24, with four return flights each week on the airline’s fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft.

Jetstar executive manager for customers Jenn Armor said the route would boost tourism by making travel between Darwin and Gold Coast faster, easier and more affordable.

“We know Australians are eager to travel to places that offer something special. Darwin and the Gold Coast are two incredible cities, each with their own flavour and now they’re just one easy flight apart,” she said.

“This new service is about putting two incredible destinations within easier reach. Less time in transit means more time to enjoy your trip — and more money to spend when you get there.

“We’re proud to connect these two amazing regions and thank the Northern Territory Government, Darwin Airport and Gold Coast Airport for their support.”

Darwin’s Airport Development Group welcomed the flight as an example of strong collaboration.

“Today’s inaugural Jetstar flight from the Gold Coast is an exciting milestone that strengthens access between two of Australia’s most iconic destinations,” executive general manager of operations Rob Porter said.

“This service is the result of a strong partnership between the Northern Territory government and Jetstar and reflects our shared commitment to growing sustainable air connectivity and unlocking tourism opportunities for the Top End.

“We’re proud to work together to ensure the Territory is more connected, more accessible, and more visible to the rest of the country.”

Flights will depart from Darwin to the Gold Coast at 1.50am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and will run from the Gold Coast to Darwin departing at 9pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

More than 60,000 passengers are expected to travel to and from the NT during the July school holiday period on domestic Jetstar flights, making it the busiest July school holiday period since 2019 for Jetstar in the NT.

During the holiday peak, four weekly services will also continue to connect Darwin with Bali, which are expected to carry over 6000 passengers during the Australian school holiday period.
