More than 20 clubs have celebrated the “vibrant diversity” of the Red Centre capital, with hundreds turning up.

Organised by the Multicultural Community Services of Central Australia (MCSCA), with the help of the Alice Springs Town Council, the big day out in harmony returned to Alice Springs on Saturday.

Event co-ordinator Jessye Blake said the day celebrated the “vibrant diversity” of the town with hundreds turning up to the town council lawns to take part.

“An attendee commented to me that they were struck by the joyousness of the event and the pride with which people were sharing their cultures,” she said.

“The success of Big Day Out in Harmony is made possible by the hard work of so many parts of our community coming together as a whole to celebrate.”

The Alice Springs Sikh community was one of the groups who took part, with the “Outback Bhangra Crew” performing a dance, member Gagandeep Singh Ralh said.

“Performing Bhangra-Punjabi Folk Dance at Big Day Out in Harmony is a proud moment for our Sikh-Punjabi community,” he said.

“It’s not just a dance – it’s a way to share our culture, energy, and joy with the wider community in Mparntwe (Alice Springs).”

Twenty-two multicultural clubs took part in the day, alongside Eastern and Western Arrernte bands, with activities such as henna hand painting, face-painting, sari workshops, Chinese lamp making, and turban workshops on offer, MCSCA chair Mona Ulak said.

She said the day was an “enormous success” despite the “wintry weather”, with Sydney rapper L-Fresh the Lion a personal highlight.

“I on behalf of MCSCA, I thank Central Australian residents and visitors for being a part of Big Day Out in Harmony,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to having you all at Big Day Out in Harmony 2026.”
