Mr Jones said trade at The Ville had been quieter than usual during the summer school holidays with people reluctant to travel but they’d had great support from local people.

“We’ve got a number of discounts and packages. At the moment our hotel Locals Stay-Cay package is proving popular which is exclusive to North Queensland residents,” he said.

To help manage impacts from the pandemic, Mr Jones said staff were being rotated through 7-day rosters to minimise interaction and additional cleaning and sanitation was being undertaken around the property.

The crane is expected to be on site until the end of the year

Mr Jones said the hotel project had no impacts on The Ville and it was business as usual.

The hotel is expected to not only attract locals seeking an up-market accommodation experience, but also travellers from all over Australia and abroad.

Construction is due to be completed in August 2023.
