The bride is a wedding dance teacher, but it was the groom who pulled out the surprise moves on this couple’s special day.
David Chapman surprised his new wife Kylie on their wedding day by organising a flashmob dance involving all of their wedding guests. The Teneriffe couple also opened up the dance floor by inviting all of their guests to get up and join them doing a line dance called the Cupid Shuffle.
“We also did a special first dance together (to Signed Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder) and I danced a father-daughter dance with my dad Kevin,’’ Kylie says.
The couple – who met four years ago through an online dating app – married on June 26 at Ocean View Estates, in front of 86 guests.
They honeymooned at Port Douglas Shantara Resort.
How did David propose?
On bended knee on my birthday, in front of our families at
a restaurant.
What was the standout moment of the day?
Opening the dance floor with our band getting everyone up to join us doing the Cupid Shuffle.
What would you do differently?
Take more time together during the reception.
One thing you wish people told you about planning a wedding?
You will make more decisions now, than ever in your life.
Any unique or surprising details about your wedding?
David surprised me with a flashmob dance by the guests! We served our guests cheese toasties at 9.30pm as a late-night snack.
We surprised our mothers by having them as our signing witnesses, and we played their wedding songs as we did the signing.
We deliberately didn’t have any guests do speeches, which our guests loved! More time to have fun and dance! We also did a special first dance together, and I danced a father-daughter dance with my dad Kevin.
Best advice for other couples planning a wedding?
Have an amazing support team surrounding you, those people will make such a difference leading up to and on the day.
Book an extra night’s accommodation so you can sleep in, relax, and enjoy being married for a hot minute!
Did Covid cause any changes to your wedding plans?
No changes needed. We only found out the day prior to the wedding that our groomsman Jeremy was going to be able to make it from Victoria (the borders opened on Friday.)
The day after our wedding they announced a three-day lockdown. We were so lucky.
