A FIRE in a western Sydney townhouse has caused the evacuation of 30 residents from their homes this morning.
Fifteen fire trucks rushed to the scene at Old kent Rd, Greenacre about 6.30am, where plumes of smoke billowed from the top of the building.
They brought the blaze under control in 15 minutes and are still investigating whether it spread to adjoining properties.
“On their way, crews noticed the volume of smoke coming from the area and upped the alarm level,” Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said.
“They knocked the fire over in about 15 minutes.
“At this stage there are no reports of anyone unaccounted for but crews have been unable to gain access to the property due to the damage.”
The entire complex of two-level townhouses where the fire occurred was evacuated.
