A young man who was arrested for swearing at police after he was refused entry at the Queens Hotel has been fined for his actions.

Graham Brierley, pleaded guilty to a public nuisance offence in the vicinity of a licensed premises and failing to leave the premises at the Ayr Magistrates Court.

Police prosecutor Angela Goodwin said on September 11, the defendant was observed to stumble forward towards the entry of the hotel and was denied entry by security.

“He was asked to leave and continued to walk away from the hotel, then at 11:30pm, the defendant was observed to climb the outside fence of the smoking area,” Ms Goodwin said.

“He was asked to leave the area and said he wanted to retrieve his belongings from inside.

“A member of the security team retrieved his belongings and asked him to leave. The defendant left but returned in a short period of time and started verbally abusing members of the security team.

“Police spoke to the defendant and he said he did not fu--ing care, and he wasn’t doing anything. When he was being spoken to by police he said “f--k you”.

“Police arrested the defendant in relation to committing a public nuisance offence,” she said.

Magistrate Ross Mack fined Brierley $600 and no conviction was recorded.

“You were too drunk to talk but you thought you could climb over a fence. You gotta figure it out, be better than this, move back from this behaviour, it doesn’t do you any good,” Mr Mack said.
