Gold Coast crime: Two women charged after police allegedly find drugs, handgun during car search

A woman has been charged after police allegedly found a loaded handgun and ammunition stashed in a handbag during the search of a vehicle on the Gold Coast overnight.

A WOMAN has been charged after police allegedly found a loaded handgun and ammunition stashed in a handbag during the search of a Gold Coast car on Tuesday night.

Police were conducting “proactive” patrols when they saw two women “acting suspiciously” inside a parked car at a Miami tavern about 7pm Tuesday, just an hour after the city went into a snap three-day lockdown.

“Police searched the vehicle and allegedly located a loaded handgun and ammunition in a handbag, more ammunition in the glove box and a collection of drugs including methamphetamine, cocaine and restricted prescription drugs,” police said in a statement.

“Nearby in the same carpark police located a second vehicle with two men inside. A subsequent search of that vehicle allegedly located a knife and the drug GHB.”

A 22-year-old Biggera Waters woman was charged with driving of motor vehicle without a driver's licence, and a string of weapon and drug offences.

She is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

A 29-year-old Surfers Paradise woman was charged with four counts of a dangerous drug.

It is alleged these charges relate to cocaine, methamphetamine, alprazolam and diazepam.

She was issued a notice to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on July 14.

Police said it was too early to determine whether the pair would be fined for breaching Covid-19 lockdown rules.

Police investigations are continuing into the men.

Boat fall

A man has been injured following a three metre fall from a boat on the northern Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the incident after reports a man reportedly fell about three metres from a boat onto a dock at Beattie Rd, Coomera at 8am.

Paramedics took the man to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with a leg injury.

Crash injures five

A two-vehicle crash on the Gold Coast on Sunday night has injured five people.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Bermuda Street and Cottesloe Drive in Robina.

Queensland Emergency Services were alerted at 8.16pm and paramedics transported the five people to Gold Coast University Hospital.

All the patients were in a stable condition.

Another person was assessed at the scene however declined transport to hospital.

Electric scooter collides with vehicle at Surfers Paradise

A MAN was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital on Thursday night following a collision between an e-scooter and a vehicle at about 10pm in Surfers Paradise.

The accident happened on Wharf Road and the Gold Coast Highway, with the person transported by ambulance after sustaining minor injuries,

Earlier on Thursday night, at about 6pm, there was a two-vehicle crash on the Pacific Motorway at Oxenford, with two patients taken to hospital in stable condition.

Meanwhile, on Friday morning a man was taken to GCUH in a stable condition after his vehicle collided with a pole on Hope Island Road at 6.36am

According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, the patient was assessed at scene and was stable.

‘CRITICAL’: MOTORCYCLIST IN HOSPITAL AFTER M1 CRASH

June 25

A MOTORCYCLIST in his 30s has been taken to hospital with “significant injuries” and is in “critical condition” following a crash on the northern Gold Coast on Thursday morning.

Emergency Services were called to the motorcycle and car crash on the M1 southbound at Helensvale just before 8am.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics were treating a patient with “significant” head and arm injuries.

Police said delays were expected on the M1 southbound following the crash at Gaven between Helensvale and Smith Street.

“Motorists are advised to use alternate routes where possible,” police said.

It comes as two people were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions on Thursday morning following a truck and vehicle crash on Worongary Road at 6.56am, according to QAS.

MAN ALLEGEDLY STABBED ON BOAT NEAR WAVE BREAK

A MAN has allegedly been stabbed with a filleting knife during a boating trip which went awry near Wave Break Island off the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast police were called about 10.30pm on Monday night after a 44-year-old man suffered a puncture wound to a hand and foot while aboard a boat, a spokeswoman said.

Investigations by officers revealed he had been socialising with a 48-year-old man known to him “when they got into an argument” and the 44-year-old man was seemingly stabbed with the knife.

“Both men did not want to make a complaint to police,” the spokeswoman said.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics were called to Main Beach and took the 44-year-old man to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of the lacerations.

Teen allegedly bit person in wake of drunken crash

June 21: Worongary residents were shocked on Sunday morning when a teenage boy allegedly crashed into a house in a stolen ute before biting a resident’s friend while being detained.

It’s alleged the 17-year-old driver crashed into the home on San Fernando Dr at Worongary on Sunday morning and tried to flee the area, but was detained while police were on the way.

Police believe one of the resident’s friends was bitten by the teen and had to go to hospital to be treated.

The residents have to find a place to stay after the crash because repairs have to be undertaken before power can be reinstated at the property.

Police have charged the teen with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of serious assault with intent to commit crime or resist arrest.

The same home has been impacted by road safety incidents several times before.

Someone previously rolled a tyre down a steep hill and it smashed through the fence of the property and into the house.

It’s believed a complaint was made to Gold Coast City Council asking for safety barriers to be installed, but no action has yet been taken.

Women allegedly found unconscious at green light with a toddler in the passenger seat.

June 17: Police have charged a Gold Coast woman with drink driving and possessing the drug ice after she was allegedly found passed out behind the wheel of a car stopped at a green light with a toddler in the vehicle.

It is alleged Gold Coast police received numerous calls from concerned members of the public about the woman, aged 23, who was found unconscious at the lights on the Gold Coast Highway about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

A three-year-old girl was found in the car, a police spokeswoman said. The girl is understood to be the woman’s daughter.

“Members of the public intervened and removed the child from the car for her safety,” the spokeswoman said.

“The woman woke and sped away from the location. She was tracked by POLAIR who were in the area at the time.”

The vehicle was intercepted by police at Caprice Court, Mermaid Waters and the woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital to be assessed.

The Worongary woman has been charged with drink drive UIL, possessing a dangerous drug (methylamphetamine) and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property (credit cards).

She was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on June 29.

Brawl spills onto busy Gold Coast road

June 16: CCTV has revealed the moment a roadside fight spilt onto a busy Gold Coast road on Wednesday afternoon.

Footage captured by a private CCTV camera shows several men involved in a heated conversation beside a parked ute on Yawalpah Road in Pimpama.

Their roadside chat escalates into a brawl, with the men seen fighting on the roadway beside moving cars.

More men then cross the road from a nearby service station to break up the fight.

Queensland Police are not investigating and it’s understood none of the people involved have made a report.
