Gold Coast police have been directing traffic after a truck crashed into a power pole on a busy CBD road, splitting it in half.

Police were advised of the incident on Ferry Rd and Wells St at Southport just before 8am on Tuesday, which resulted in the closure of one lane, a spokeswoman said.

Energex workers were on scene and police traffic control was still underway about 8.30am.

The electricity to the pole has been cut, according to Queensland Police.

Motorists have been advised to be cautious while driving in the area.

Paramedics and firefighters were not required after the crash.
