Suspicious fire engulfs industrial bin and van on Ferry Road, Southport, crime scene declared

Police have declared a crime scene near a number of high-end Gold Coast car dealerships following a suspicious fire. Read the latest.

Police have established a crime scene in Southport as they investigate a suspicious fire near a cluster of luxury car dealerships.

The blaze broke out in an industrial bin behind a business on Ferry Rd about 2.30am on Tuesday.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the fire had spread to a nearby van by the time emergency services arrived.

Three fire crews attended the property, which was not far from the Aston Martin and McLaren car showrooms.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said two commercial properties suffered smoke damage and had to be ventilated by firefighters.

Police have established a crime scene near Minnie St and detectives were expected to attend the property on Tuesday morning.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online.
