Power outage hits Gold Coast suburbs Broadbeach and Mermaid affecting 1600 homes

A major power outage has suddenly hit the central Gold Coast suburbs of Mermaid and Broadbeach. UPDATES

An out-of-the-blue power outage has hit more than 1600 homes in the central Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon.

Just after 5pm, power went out to 1667 Energex customers across Broadbeach, Broadbeach Waters, Mermaid Beach and Mermaid Waters.

Energex reported the outage was under investigation with a new update not expected until 8pm.

Affected streets include Alexandra Ave, Aquila Ct, Bacardi Ct, Bordeaux Pde, Brightlands Ct, Caprice Ct, Chianti Ave, Christina Ct, Cronulla Ave, Duet Dr, Frascati St, Gaven Cres, Gold Coast Hwy, Gretel Dr, Hooker Bvd, Karen Ave, Le Mans Dr, Mascala Pde, Melody St, Mermaid Ave, Northview St, Orvieto Ave, Pacific Fair Dr, Peerless Ave, Seaview Ave, Sunbrite Ave, Sunshine Bvd, Surfers Ave, Vatakoula Pde, Ventura Rd, Verdichio Ave and Vevey St.
