Police have launched an investigation into a crash on the M1 which motorists described as “carnage” during peak-hour traffic.
Emergency services were called to the four-car crash on the Pacific Motorway southbound in Burleigh Heads at around 4.20pm on Wednesday.
One motorist, who was on their way home from work, described the incident as “carnage” as the cars were left sprawled across two lanes of the M1.
A Gold Coast police statement said the crash occurred near the Bermuda St on-ramp and involved a white Audi Q5 hatchback, a white Hyundai Elantra, a silver Subaru wagon and a black Toyota LandCruiser.
Paramedics assessed five people, including a 56-year-old Araucaria man who was driving the Audi and a 41-year-old Currumbin Waters man who was driving the Hyundai.
They both were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Paramedics also checked three other people who declined to be taken to hospital.
Police launched a public appeal on Thursday, urging anyone with information or relevant vision or dashcam to call them on 131 444.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
