Wild footage has emerged of an alleged hit and run traffic crash in Southport.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Ferry Rd and High St just after 10pm on Saturday night following reports of a crash between a BMW 318i and a Honda Jazz.

Police allege the driver of the BMW, a 32-year-old Runaway Bay man, fled the scene on foot before police arrived.

He was located by police a short time later and arrested.

A witness posted images of the wreckage to Facebook which showed two cars, which appeared to be written off, in the middle of the street.

The Honda was being towed, while the BMW which sustained damage to its side and front was stationed across the road.

The driver of the Honda was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations are underway.
