Chairs were sent flying and kicks thrown when a confrontation broke between a group of young men in the food court of a major Gold Coast shopping centre on Australia Day.
The incident played out in front of a packed food court at Australia Fair in Southport about 4.15pm on Sunday.
Footage obtained by the Bulletin, shows a man in a white shirt attempt to kick another man in the head. He misses and then arms himself with a chair – lifting it above his head and smashing it on the floor. At this point, the other male has now also armed himself with a chair.
“I’ll do the f***ing same thing c***,” the enraged man says as he storms towards the other male. He grabs a second dining chair, again lifting it above his head and smashing it on the floor. A loud bang rings out through the shopping centre as it hits the ground and shatters into pieces. The debris hits the front of a food store, also landing on the ground in front of the group of men.
“What are ya gonna do ya f***ing dog. what?,” the man yells at the group.
“What?, what?. I’m getting food c***, I’m getting food.
“Get the f*** out of here then,” the man says before another male intervenes and the fight is broken up.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said officers were called to attend the disturbance and arrested a 20-year-old man from Mudgeeraba.
He has been charged with wilful damage and was released from custody to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on February 11.
No one was injured during the altercation.
