Wet’n’Wild unveils Australia’s tallest water slide Kaboom as Dreamworld launches $32m Steel Taipan

Just in time for Christmas Gold Coast theme parks have launched two new attractions – the country’s tallest water slide, and an unreal, $32m roller coaster. SEE WHEN THEY LAUNCH

A major theme park on the Gold Coast will see swathes of tourists slipping into summer with the opening of Australia’s tallest water slide.

Just in the nick of time for the Queensland border reopening on Monday, December 13, Wet’n’Wild unveiled Friday a brand new multimillion-dollar precinct including the 27m tall slide tower – the Kaboom – and new splash zone.

The gargantuan tower features three thrilling slides including the Kaboom, Double Barrell and Super Ripper.

Village Roadshow CEO Clark Kirby said it was a “very exciting” time in Wet’n’Wild’s history to open the new precinct.

“This new attraction is a game-changer for Wet’n’Wild and with the tallest water slide tower in Australia featuring three all new rides,” he said.

“There are plenty of new thrills and spills on offer for our guests in time for summer and the border reopening,” he said.

“In addition to the exciting new slide complex, we also have the H2Oasis splash zone which will be perfect for our families with younger guests, meaning this new precinct will have something on offer for the whole family.

Mr Kirby said it would be a “a great Summer for Wet’n’Wild with Dive’n’Movies also returning from the 27th December.”

The new attraction for Wet’n’Wild comes off the back of Dreamworld’s announcement for the launch of the Steel Taipan – a $32m rollercoaster which will open on December 15 – for the theme park’s 40th birthday.

Just in time for Christmas, riders can experience all 1.2km of the 105km/h, triple-launch coaster with its multiple inversions and spinning gondola.

Launch date announced for Dreamworld’s Steel Taipan

Dreamworld is set to usher in the summer of the snake after announcing the launch date of its $32m Steel Taipan roller coaster, just in time for Christmas.

From December 15, riders will be able to experience all 1.2km of the 105km/h, triple-launch coaster with its multiple inversions and spinning gondola.

The launch date coincides with the theme park’s 40th birthday, which will be celebrated with a range of additional entertainment, giveaways and fun for team members and guests.

“We couldn’t think of a better gift for our 40th birthday than the opening of the biggest new attraction in Dreamworld’s history, offering a new, world-class thrill experience during the school holidays, and just in time for the border reopening,” Dreamworld CEO Greg Yong said.

“Steel Taipan is a truly fantastic addition to our attraction offering, featuring the Southern Hemisphere’s first triple launch system and the world’s first spinning rear seats.

“You’ve got to feel it to believe it, so we encourage our locals to visit from the 15th to see what all the hype is about.”

The Steel Taipan project, the biggest single investment in Dreamworld’s history, has created more than 200 jobs, with about 98 per cent of contractor packages awarded to southeast Queensland companies.

Mr Yong said the Steel Taipan was likely the largest private sector tourism attraction investment since the pandemic began, and hoped aviation, accommodation, and other tourism businesses would benefit from the visitors drawn to it.

Shareholders in Dreamworld parent company Ardent Leisure will be hoping the roller coaster boosts sales of the park’s annual passes which range from $99-$119.

Dreamworld earlier this year unveiled plans for a $75m Dreamworld Resort, which is being funded and developed by Evolution Group.

The accommodation offering will include a 4-star 250 room resort-style hotel, 40 bungalows and a 5-star tourist park with 100 powered sites.
