Gold Coast crime: Teens arrested for allegedly stealing car and running away from police

A GROUP of teenagers aged 13-16 have been arrested after allegedly fleeing police in a stolen car before the four-wheel drive collided with an unmarked police vehicle and struck a fence on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Police said in statement officers were notified the four-wheel was spotted heading north at Coolangatta about 5.30pm on Thursday.

Patrolling police found the four-wheel drive and a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed on Currumbin Creek Rd about 8.30pm.

“The damaged vehicle continued along Currumbin Creek Road failing to stop for police before travelling at slow speed into KP McGrath Drive at Elanora, where it collided with an unmarked police vehicle,” the statement read.

“No one was injured and the police vehicle sustained minor damage.

“The vehicle continued along KP McGrath Dr before coming to a halt after mounting the median strip and hitting an aluminium security fence at around 8.40pm.”

Four teenagers were allegedly found in the vehicle and arrested.

Police allege a 13-year-old Currumbin Waters boy was behind the wheel.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for “an unrelated medical matter”.

The boy was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and evade police.

He was denied police bail and was expected to face Southport Children’s Court.

Two “passengers”, 14-year-old girl from Worongary and a 16-year-old girl from Mermaid Beach were also denied police bail and expected to face the court.

The 14-year-old was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, while the 16-year-old was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

Police also charged a 13-year-old Mermaid Beach girl with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and she was also expected to face the court.

It’s alleged the four-wheel drive was stolen from the Currumbin area between Tuesday and Wednesday.
