A “crumble bar” known for its sweet crème brulé has proved to be a success after opening in a Gold Coast carpark less than three months ago.
Sweet Spot co-owner Georgina Harrison and her brother Braden Ceccato opened their trailer turned “crumble bar” in Robina on June 1.
Ms Harrison said it was a “no-brainer” to open Sweet Spot in the carpark next to their own award-winning fish and chips hotspot, Small Fry.
She said the “build your own crumble” concept was what made them unique on the Gold Coast, as well as their popular ‘crumbrule’.
“It is your choice of apple and cinnamon or mixed berry fruit topped with twice baked shortbread crumble or biscoff crumb, our hot vanilla bean custard with a crunchy crème brulé finish on top,” she said.
“Our frozen custard on top of any crumble is fabulous.
“Just like adding ice cream and custard except all together in one.
“Our blow torched meringue is divine too. Think ‘toasted camp fire marshmallow on top of your favourite dessert’.”
Ms Harrison said the secret to a “truly memorable crumble” wasn’t just the recipe.
“It is in the experience,” she said.
“This isn’t just a dessert, it’s a moment.”
Ms Harrison said they weren’t surprised by their success on the Gold Coast after seeing its popularity overseas.
“The inspiration was based from a London company that I spotted,” she said.
“I had not seen anything like it in Australia and it was so delicious so of course I had to bring the concept here.”
After being open for less than three months the family duo now get a “couple hundred customers every day”.
Ms Harrison said they hoped once Sweet Spot becomes “more established” to open another along the beach and at weekend markets on the Gold Coast.
“We have grown from only takeaway to providing tables, chairs, heaters and a rotating DJ or musician on Saturday evenings to create a fun family vibe and atmosphere,” she said.
