A southern Gold Coast barber shop is a cut above the rest after they were named the city’s best for the second year in a row.

Backbone Barbershop owner Sam Squires and his two parlour’s in Currumbin and Burleigh were recently voted by Bulletin readers as the best on the Gold Coast.

After combing through hundreds of nominations, Backbone Barbershop was one of 37 finalists and Mr Squires said it was a good feeling to win again.

“It’s a reminder the local community values what we do and the consistency we show every day,” he said.

Last year Mr Squires said he would be happy to never see a skullet again, but this year he wanted to cut out any styles which were “trendy for the sake of it”.

“Good hair should suit the person, not just a moment,” he said.

Mr Squires said after nine years in the industry he understood the need for staff who were “genuinely good people”.

“We focus on quality, professionalism, and giving people a reliable experience every single time.”

He said their beachside parlour specialised in “structured, balanced haircuts” and even offered a barber education and training.

“Across both shop locations, we see plenty of clients every week and everyone gets the same level of attention.”
