DJ Fisher announces the return of Out 2 Lunch festival on the Gold Coast

Internationally renowned DJ Fisher has announced he is bringing his “monster” beach festival back to the Gold Coast, but this time it won’t be at Coolangatta.

‘That was incredible’: Australia’s biggest beach party proves a success

Internationally renowned DJ Fisher has announced he is bringing his “monster” beach festival back to the Gold Coast, but this time it won’t be at Coolangatta.

On Wednesday, Paul Fisher, better known as DJ Fisher, announced he would be moving the giant event to Surfers Paradise.

Fisher also announced the festival would be expanded with a second day and he intended to headline both on May 3 and 4.

“Out 2 Lunch festival is back this May for the second year running and I can’t wait to do it all again,” he said.

“We’ve got a great line-up and there’s no better place than Surfers Paradise to have a beach bash.

“Aussies just love a party and I’m ready to put it on for you!!”

More than 30,000 people descended on Coolangatta beach last May during the debut of the festival.

Fisher said it was a “surreal” moment playing on his “home turf” and that it was “the best night of my life”.

“Can’t explain the feelings I have,” he said.

The promoters behind the “spectacular” festival, TEG Live, said the event injected more than $50 million into the local economy.

“The planning and logistics required to deliver the event were extraordinary, particularly as this was the very first time this many people attended a staged event on Coolangatta beach,” TEG Group CEO Geoff Jones said.

Despite the rave reviews, Coolangatta locals shared their dismay over the impact the festival had on the foreshore.

At the time, Wolf publications owner Brendon Wolf said the event was “incredible” for the Gold Coast.

“Yes, the foreshore ended up quite muddy but that was the result of an unfortunate downpour earlier in the day,” he said.

“The grass will grow back.

“It’s no different from the kids who make a slide down Kirra hill when it rains.”

This year’s Surfers Paradise instalment will have a stacked line-up of international and local acts including Chris Lake, Patrick Topping, DJ Boring, Hayden James, Little Fritter, Shimmy and more.

Many of the acts responded to Fisher’s announcement on Instagram, supporting the move to Surfers Paradise.

“Oh yep, we onnnn here,” Little Fritter said.

One fan even titled it: “Fisher’s Paradise”.

Southern Gold Coast city councillor Gail O’Neill, who last year expressed disappointment at the damage done in Coolangatta, said she wished the festival every success at its new location.

“I believe the promoters of the Out 2 Lunch Festival made the decision to move the festival to Surfers Paradise because of the timeframe they have chosen,” she said.

“I believe it is also now a two-day festival.

“After a Report on the Coolangatta Festival was brought back to Council it was resolved that Council do not approve two major events be permitted in the Coolangatta area on the same weekend.

“WSL Tour Surfing event had been granted approval for their 2025 event on the same weekend and this event does provide a large economic impact to the Southern Gold Coast.

“The resolution also stipulated that a major event, with a large footprint and infrastructure requirements not be approved so close to another major event (Cooly Rocks On) as there would not be enough time for refurbishment of the Coolangatta foreshore, if, as in the case of Out 2 Lunch 2024, there is major damage.

“I wish Out 2 Lunch Festival and Fisher every success with their festival.

“I have no doubt that Surfers Paradise is a great venue and quite used to successfully hosting major events on the beach and foreshore.”

Tickets for the anticipated event will go on pre-sale for Vodafone customers on February 25 at 9am.

The fan pre-sale will open the same day at 1pm and the general public sale will go live on February 26 at 1pm.
