A Coolangatta skate shop owner says he feels “defeated” and is “living in fear” after a teen who faced court for kicking his “head in” was let off on good behaviour.

A Coolangatta skate shop owner says he feels “defeated” and is “living in fear” after a teen who faced court for kicking his “head in” was let off on good behaviour.
Concrete Lines Skate Store owner Les Graue was attacked by a teen gang on March 11, leaving him with a broken elbow, four-stitches and a concussion.
On June 18, 19-year-old Nathaniel Torrens faced court after he was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
Magistrate Kerry Magee said his no criminal history and guilty plea demonstrated remorse.
He was ordered to perform 50 hours of unpaid community service within five months and will be on good behaviour.
Mr Graue said he was “not okay” after the result of the court hearing.
“What message does this send to him and other youths,” he said.
“This is the reason youth crime is out of control.”
Mr Graue said it was “completely unacceptable” for workers, residents and visitors to feel threatened in the community.
“Kids are laughing at police and their victims,” he said.
“Does this have to happen to a couple of these magistrates and politicians for them to understand what is happening on the ground.
“How will he ever change his behaviour?”
